Job Description
We are a member of the Special Steel Group of companies, located in Sheffield at the heart of the steel and engineering industry. Our Group consists of 5 independently operational businesses covering multiple disciplines including forging, heat treatment, testing, machining, and global distribution of advanced nickel-based alloys & special steels. Special Quality Alloys (SQA) is our nickel alloy and special steel forging and distribution business within the Group and one of the leading providers of superalloys for critical applications throughout the world, having been awarded the Queens Award for Enterprise for International Trade in 2022. We are continually investing in new equipment and facilities, having recently doubled the size of our US operation and invested in new forging equipment in the UK. Our customer base has expanded and diversified significantly in the last few years, and we are keen to ensure we support this business with the wider portfolio of prime, third party quality approvals necessary to operate at these high levels. Consequently, a full-time opportunity has arisen for a Quality Engineer to join the team at SQA at a time of positive change as we manage these approvals. The role is based full time in the Sheffield office working 5 days on site. Working hours are Monday to Thursday 8:30am-5:00pm and Friday 8:30am-4:30pm. The successful candidate will report directly to the SQA Technical Director but will also provide support for the Group Quality Manager to ensure our wider quality activities are unified throughout the Group. Duties & Responsibilities. -Working with the Group Quality Manager to maintain our range of QMS approvals, providing support when adopting further approvals. -Engage & drive improvement initiatives via internal auditing/projects. -Working alongside the Technical Department to undertake problem solving activities utilising 8D/5W techniques. Managing NCR disposition. -Development of standard operating procedures/working instructions. -Undertaking of audits when the need arises.
Skills Required
The successful candidate will have: -Comprehensive knowledge of ISO9001:2015 Management System Standards. Aerospace Management System experience will be beneficial. -Experience working within a steel / engineering environment. -Experience of undertaking audits to the above standard(s). -Experience of undertaking problem solving activities using techniques including 5 why, Ishikawa, 8D and PEAR. Qualifications. -GCSE’s or ‘A’ Level Qualification/s including English, Mathematics and Science. -NVQ/Certificate/Diploma in Quality Management or similar (Preferred). -Auditing qualifications (Preferred). Key Skills. The ideal candidate must have: -Excellent spoken and written communication. -Skilled using a computer and be familiar using Microsoft Word and Excel packages. -Ability to build relationships and liaise with people at all levels of the business. -Flexible attitude with multi-tasking skills. -High level of motivation. -Attention to detail is essential. Salary: Up to £35,000, but negotiable depending on experience and qualifications, plus a contributory pension scheme.
