Job Description
The Special Steel Group is located in Sheffield and is one of the most successful steel and engineering businesses in the country, and a recipient of the Queens Award for Enterprise. The Group consists of 6 independently operational businesses covering multiple disciplines including forging, heat treatment, testing, machining, and global distribution of advanced nickel-based alloys & special steels. We would like to appoint a Deputy Group Health, Safety & Environmental Manager, based at our Group HQ reporting to the Group HS&E Manager. You will work closely with other H&S and Quality team members, and responsibilities will include the development and implementation of our H&S manuals and associated risk assessments, safe working procedures and training for UK based employees, employee inductions and liaising with external contractors. You will also support the development and maintenance of our extensive range of safety & environmental policies and practices throughout the UK businesses, including our ISO 14001 accreditation. Note, this is a ‘Group Wide’ role allowing for a broad and varied working environment across all our UK companies within Sheffield.
Skills Required
The candidate will be experienced within a multi-site, steel / engineering or manufacturing environment and hold a NEBOSH certificate qualification as a minimum, possibly working towards the H&S Diploma. An environmental qualification would be desirable like IEMA Foundation Certificate or similar, but not vital. Familiarity with auditing to ISO 45001, and 14001 standards and supporting Management in continuous improvement programmes will be key requirements of the post. As the Group is growing, this position has scope for promotion in the coming years. Salary:- will depend on experience and qualifications, so open to discussion, but in the region of £35,000 to 40,000+ for the right person.
